Welcome to My Blog: Movement, Riders, and the Human–Equine Connection

Hello and welcome!

I’m Jo, a physiotherapist with a passion for helping horse riders move better, feel stronger, and manage pain effectively. Over the years, I’ve combined my clinical experience with my love of horses and movement to develop an approach that bridges physiotherapy, Pilates, and equine-assisted therapy.

This blog is a space where I’ll share insights, reflections, and practical tips for anyone interested in:

  • Physiotherapy and rider rehabilitation — understanding how the body moves, identifying asymmetries, and improving movement patterns, strength, balance, and coordination for riders.

  • Pain management — exploring the science of chronic pain and movement, exploring strategies to restore confidence and control.

  • Equine assisted therapy — examining how the human–horse connection can support physical, emotional, and neurological wellbeing, including applications for hippotherapy and therapeutic groundwork riders and those who are new to horses.

  • Neurodiversity and movement — considering how different nervous system profiles influence pain, movement, and interaction, and how therapy can be tailored to meet these unique needs.

My approach is always individualised, evidence-informed, and holistic. I see each rider as a complex system — body, mind, and nervous system — and I work to create safe, supportive environments where movement, awareness, and confidence can flourish.

On this blog, you can expect a mix of:

  • Practical guides and exercises for riders

  • Case studies and reflections from my clinical work

  • Insights from my ongoing studies in Equine Assisted Therapy

  • Updates on research, workshops, and innovations in physiotherapy for riders

So, if you’re a competitive rider, recreational horse lover, or a fellow therapist, my goal is to share knowledge and inspiration that helps you move more freely, connect more deeply, manage your pain and feel empowered in your body.

I’m excited to start this journey with you — exploring the fascinating intersections between movement, therapy, and the human–equine relationship.
